Jesus was not the only one crucified this method of killing was used plenty by the romans. Day by day they would crucify christians because they wanted them to conform to one religion. Sun worship did not just start in this generation (holding service on Sunday). Constantine the great decided to change this crucifix symbol into a christian symbol and thats why it is commonly worn as a necklace.

Isaiah 40:18-19

To whom then will ye liken God? Or what likeness will ye compare into him?
